Welcome to Von Vixen’s Boudoir

This blog is an attempt to gather together the threads and scraps of my performance practice into some kind of queer, untidy archive. Like any femme’s boudoir it will be messy; glitter and lipstick smudged on surfaces dotted with empty glasses, odd stockings dangling from drawers ajar, and abandoned crumbs of ideas littering the floor. I am slow starting, but over time I hope to use this site to collect information about past and future shows/performances/events/collaborations, photo and video documentation of work, and meta-musings on my practice, activism, and academic work.

In the meantime, a few tidbits to whet your appetite:

Every Diva has a Creation Myth

VonVixen was hatched at Bird Club in London’s Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club on Easter Sunday 2010 under the glamorous wing of femme mama Bird la Bird. After a decade away from the stage, this chick flourished under the attention of the queer flock in attendance, her feathers growing ever more colourful with each laugh, whistle, and cheer. Hooked once more, she quickly set out to find any perch she could to flounce, prance, chitter and show off.

She has since performed at several incarnations of Bird Club, Wotever World, and Duckie as well as academic conferences, and was 2014 finalist in Scottee’s beauty pageant and talent show for fat people, Hamburger Queen

As Vivacious Von Vixen she gets rowdy audiences jiggling their wobbly bits in cabaret clubs, community centres and university lecture theatres through her interactive body-loving Chubrobics.

Her performances tend to be about bodies, sex, fat, food, the joys and perils of negotiating academic, activist, and artistic circles simultaneously, and the fabulous Divine, her inspiration and spirit animal.

Upcoming Performances

04/11/2014: Le Tomatique present Glitter Wurst Bean Medley. Bar Wotever, Royal Vauxhall Tavern. Doors 7pm, show 8.30pm. £5/3. Click here for the Facebook event.

Vikki VonVixen will be performing under her Dadaist alter-ego of V. V. Voom as part of avant-garde performance duo Le Tomatique .

Le Tomatique are a Duo of Nonsensical and Grotesque Word-Shapers and Body-Movers influenced by Everything, from Dada to David Hoyle; from Bauhaus to Beyonce; from Lewis Carroll to Line-Dancing; from Mung Beans to My Little Pony. Le Tomatique are composed of V. V. Voom and H. P. Source.

Glitter Wurst Bean Medley is a Variety Show. A messy, mismatched melange of absurdity and philosophy enacted at high speed with a kaleidoscope of clashing colours, dangerous objects and irritating sounds.
